U.S. Student Short Film: In the Bowl | 美国学生短片《碗里》

“In the Bowl” tells the story of Li Xinyi, a Chinese girl studying in the United States, who strives to recreate her hometown’s specialty dish, “Laoyou Noodles.” In a foreign land, she longs for the flavors and friends of her homeland. Despite her various attempts, she cannot capture the familiar taste. Upon returning to her hometown, she feels a sense of distance from her friends and becomes confused about her path and where she belongs. Eventually, she revisits a restaurant deeply rooted in her memories. Through a conversation with the restaurant owner, she finds her way, accepts the challenges life has brought her, and finds inner peace. The film, through the pursuit of “Laoyou Noodles,” explores Li Xinyi’s reflections on belonging and identity.
