Jonghoon Ahn is a filmmaker and media artist from Korea, currently based in Los Angeles and Seoul. His work blends fiction and documentary, often focusing on stories of silence, displacement, and emotional survival. Much of his recent work explores family violence and immigrant identity through the lens of those often unheard—social outsiders, children, and those trapped by language or circumstance.

His latest short film, Non-done Record, was named a finalist for the 2024 Sundance Ignite Fellowship and won a Silver Award for Best Student Director at the Independent Shorts Awards. At the heart of the film is a quiet observation of grief and disconnection—central themes in Jonghoon’s broader practice.

Jonghoon earned his MFA from CalArts in Art and Technology, where he began expanding his approach to storytelling by experimenting with motion capture, volumetric video, and real-time graphics. While trained in Western cinematic traditions, he continues to look for slower, quieter ways of telling stories that feel rooted in place, memory, and lived experience.

Through his films, he hopes to make space for stories that are often pushed to the margins—not with spectacle, but with care and attention.
