Having operated for 73 years, Chi Kee is known as “the last sawmill in Hong Kong”. Under the greater integration of Hong Kong and Mainland China, the development of the “Northern Metropolis” led to its demolition.

Chi Kee witnessed the economic boom of Hong Kong during the 70s and 80s. After 1997, dealing with old wood and storm-fallen trees, Chi Kee transformed into a key player in the environmental sector.

The old steeds rest, the industry fades, which is like discarded wood. Over five years of documentation, is it a sigh of something inevitably ending? Or is it the resilience of life?
