The perceived leniency of his 12-year sentence became a focal point of public outrage. This landmark case, internationally recognized as the “Sowon Case,” not only inspired a cinematic adaptation but also served as a critical impetus for substantive legal reforms in South Korea concerning sexual crimes and sentencing.

A 2025’s Singapore newspaper Lianhe Zaobao report covered a case from 2023 in which a 14-year-old boy and an accomplice gang-raped a 13-year-old girl. The perpetrator ultimately received a mere one-year rehabilitation sentence, ostensibly due to his minority status. This raises the question of whether the sentence was excessively lenient. Should juvenile offenders be exempt from facing consequences for their crimes? Does being young ever justify a free pass?

This film was born from a speculative premise, one we as artists are uniquely positioned to explore: What if the victim had been a legal expert?

In this cinematic work, the central narrative revolves around a university law professor whose daughter becomes a victim of a violent crime. The perpetrator, wielding substantial influence and power, systematically suppresses the judicial proceedings through relentless manipulation. The film’s primary storyline traces the mother’s meticulously calculated path toward revenge, while the powerful antagonist engages in an escalating series of retaliatory measures, generating intense suspense and delivering profoundly impactful revelations.

Through its layered narrative structure, the production offers a sophisticated examination of contemporary societal norms, legal frameworks, and fundamental human nature. It poses critical philosophical inquiries: How do we define true justice? What constitutes the appropriate response to systemic victimization? Should survivors remain silent under societal pressure? Can perpetrators legitimately escape accountability? The film ultimately affirms the universal principle that good and evil must inevitably face their respective consequences or “retribution”.
