Director Tushar Ballav was born in a peasant family of Monoharpur village in West Medinipur, on 2nd December 1976. Since his early boyhood, he had a great interest in films, which, in later years, has developed as a deep passion. Owing to this passion he pulled himself out of the customary education system and set out for Kolkata. To survive in an alien city, he took up the job of a cook in a factory, which in return, provided him with food and lodging. At the same time, he joined a theatre group to get himself closer to the film world. Having struggled for eight long years, he somehow managed to be an Assistant Director and for a couple of years worked under different Directors. During that period he got to learn the craft of film making. The learning came into effect when he finally got the opportunity to direct two short films – Jonaki (The Firefly) and Abela (The Late Afternoon), one after another. Both films were appreciated highly by the viewers. The response he got, gave him the desired confidence to take the big plunge and make his long-cherished dream a reality. And thus came to his debut feature film Baki Itihas (The Unfinished Manuscript).
