Apratim De
/ Director
My Story
Apratim is a filmmaker, writer and an aspiring actor. He sincerely tries understanding human behaviour and relationships, and ways in which cultures interact and evolve. His endeavours to make films with an interdisciplinary approach towards human condition have been polished over the years both academically and through hands-on experiences, all of which have culminated in his visual and writing aesthetics.
He is one of the Assistant Directors in Tarikh: A Timeline, a film made by Churni Ganguly which has received prestigious awards and is now travelling lands and seas for a wider audience. Diverse experiences at work ranging from creative writing with Injiri (Jaipur) to copywriting with YellowBulbs (Kolkata), from being a Research Associate at Kahaani Wale (Delhi) to Deputy Manager of the Office of Learning Support (academic accommodations and remediation for students with learning disabilities) at Ashoka University have honed his skills of interacting with the world through his art. Apratim has been a Young India Fellow with Ashoka University before which he had graduated with Philosophy in Jadavpur University with a gold medal (‘Indu Bhusan Putatunda and Shanti Sudha Putatunda Memorial Award’ , 2013) congratulated by The Alumni Association NCE Bengal & Jadavpur University.
While not at work, you could find Apratim aimlessly walking an avenue, gone on a trip somewhere hilly and woody, writing or sketching at quietest corners of cities with incessant cups of tea, putting delicacies in and out of the oven or perhaps even spending a great deal of time with friends, family, good music and food.
Journeys of three women reveal a strange web of encounters, emotions, and priorities to explore notions of motherhood, both biological, and the one that is chosen and unknowingly forsaken. Humans perhaps behave like fish in troubled waters.
