Director Statement

Don’t Try This Alone is a comedy film about addiction that was birthed not only from a conversation with one of my closest friends who told me him and his father were failing terribly to quit smoking, but from the story of my grandfather who wouldn’t give up smoking cigarettes even while he laid on his death bed.

In the essence of that famous Niels Bohr’s quote “Some things are so serious that one can only joke about them”, I wanted to make a film that really explored the seriousness of addiction but in a way that felt less like a slap in the fast and more like a delicious and digestible meal.

This film depicts and explores the lengths to which someone will go to justify their addiction. It’s a reflection of real people who on a day to day basis know they should quit their addiction but won’t, or can’t. I wanted to specifically make this piece humorous because I believe comedy is one of purest ways to fully explore the questions and topics that plague us daily while remaining impartial and without judgment towards the subject.

Don’t Try This Alone is a dive into a subject that feels so close to home because some form of addiction has affected all of us directly or indirectly. I feel humbled to be able to make this the subject of my latest passion project and I am honored to share this film with you.

Please Enjoy!
